intro story
It's been a long time...
Maybe hours. Days. Decades. A millennia. You aren't sure, but for a while all you can remember is wandering through the cold and the dark looking for a way out. It feels like all you can recall.
But there's a light at the end of the tunnel... a faint one, but even that is nearly blinding and enough to lead you to the town of Havenhollow. It's a tiny little place... only two streets, in fact. Fourteen houses in total lie in this refuge of light and warmth that seems to be pushing back the numbness you were once in as you wandered through the dark.
Look behind you, and you can see the tunnel, along with a 'now leaving Havenhollow' sign. The darkness is frightening, though, and the tunnel doubly so now that you've managed to find light.

There is no escape from this town, as every direction is covered in misty forests and leads back into the darkness. But why would you want to escape? It's so very cosy here. In fact, it's already starting to feel like home. You're drawn to one of the houses, fumbling in your pockets to find the keys to the front door (and maybe even the car in the driveway), and the moment you step through the doorway, there is a rush of warmth.
The heater is on, and you never realized you were so cold before. The lights are on as well, and the fridge and pantry are well stocked. There is hot water and a warm bed with your clothes in the nearby closet and maybe you'd feel a little better with some food and rest...
When you wake again, you finally feel well enough to remember who you are. Where you came from. How in the world did you manage to get here? How long have you been wandering in that darkness? Just where is this place?
There is a smartphone on your bedside counter, flashing your name. It's yours... but is it really? It's certainly new and you don't ever remember having a phone like that. Even stranger is a large 'call all' option on your screen, ready to call the entire town and inform them you're here whether they answer or not.
Your musings may be interrupted by the doorbell. Those are just children coming up for candy. Oh, didn't you know? It's Halloween Eve, and there are decorations all over the lawn of the house you've settled into. There are elaborately dressed children begging for treats while their guardians stand on the sidewalk, faces shadowed while they wait for their precious child to come back.
You arrived in this town on Halloween. In fact, every day is Halloween, and there will always be children knocking on your door and decorations on your lawn...
